Distributor cap gasket

I have ordered distributor cap gaskets from three different vendors and none of them fit in the recess in the cap. I am talking about the cap to distributor body gasket.

They all have been cork gaskets and are too wide to fit in the recess in the cap. I worked one gasket for a long time and forced it into the recess only to end up stretching the gasket to the point it was too long for it to fit.

What do you guys use for this gasket? I was thinking about using an o-ring but the one I found was too thick to allow the cap to go back on the distributor.

I have had trouble with the cap gasket. The ones I have trouble with the diameter is too large. You kinda have to squeeze them
into the grove.

I don't know how to post a link and don't need a tutorial on how to do it. It was a simple question, I just want to know which vendors gasket work the best in the dist cap to dist body application.

I, for one, would like to know what retailers you purchased gaskets from so that I can avoid them in the future and as a result not have the same issue that you are.

Seems that a lot of tractor parts are made in probably China.
I just bought an oil bath air cleaner gasket that I had to disc sand at least 1/16" off all around the out side so it would go into the groove.

One set of gaskets was an eBay purchase that I can no longer identify the seller but the package says"Atlantic Quality Parts". The other two sets were from local supply stores who have the parts individually and you don't get a package, so I have no idea who made them. Now, wasn't that a big help?

You are are interested in protecting yourself from wrong purchases, but my original question has been ignored. What gasket works for forum members?

The one I bought locally. It was a hair oversize and I trimmed it with my Exacto knife.

I bought a gasket from Steiner. After much pushing, and tucking the gasket did go into the groove in the distributor
cap.
It looks like it will work ok. The coil to dist gasket also fit correctly.

BTH, I buy the caps with O-rings in them.
The gaskets don't fit in them well, but by the time the O-ring
wears out it's time to replace the cap anyway. Seals better too.
A little silicone grease makes them a nice water-tight seal that
doesn't stick to anything while taking them off, so they last.

Where do you buy the caps with the oring gasket? Looks like it would work well.

Don't know what happened to my last post on this topic, but a gasket from Steiner did work with much pushing and tucking I finally got in the groove.

I think the oring type would work much better.
