Guys I went to look at what I thought was an 8N parts tractor today and it turned out to be a Ferguson. I know absolutely nothing about Fergusons but it has a 4 cylinder overhead valve engine and a 3 speed transmission. It is in pretty rough shape but it can be saved and I can get it for next to nothing I am just wondering if it is worth messing with or what model tractor it might be. I posted this question on the Ferguson site too I was just curious if anyone here knows anything about them.

Skip,It is possibly a TO-20,or a TO30,but both have a 4 speed transmission,so maybe you need a another look.Yes it is worth fixing if it is running or the engine is not locked up,and can be bought at the right price.

Can't help much with the ID.
Although I think the Fergie 35s had a 3 speed with high/low range. They were good tractors - live hyds, live pto.
But as cheap and plentiful as old tractors are, if it is indeed a TO 20 or 30 I wouldn't go too far out of my way to try to save one that is "pretty rough".
By the time you rebuild an engine, maybe put rubber on it and other odds and ends you will be into it for more than a decent 600, 801, 2,3,4000 would cost you. All of those models will have many more refinements and options than a TO 20 or 30 which aren't much different than an N.

As Den said probably a TO20 Or TO30. Cracks in engine between the cylinders were common. Something to take into consideration before purchase. Replacement blocks are hard to find and costly cause them are in demand.

The TO-35 was a decent tractor but parts are less readily available and generally more expensive than for vintage Fords.

Heed Kirk's advise regarding gasoline cylinder blocks.

The TO35 was a good tractor with the high and low range trans. The Z134 continental engine may also have had cracks but maybe not as many as the earlier models. Ferguson, I would guess, was addressing this problem by the time the TO35 was introduced.
When buying a ferguson if the oil is a little too clean,as if it's just been changed, it would raise a flag. Also if there is what looks like a nut or bolt head on the side of the block, usually between the third and fourth cylinder it could be a sign of a repair.
