Greetings, everyone. I haven't been on in a while which is a good thing!! It means I haven't had trouble with my tractor lol.

I was bush hogging and plowing last Saturday. Ran the tractor for about 8 hrs. On my way back to the barn, she just quit. Now I can't get her restarted.

Specs: 2N, 6V, Pos Ground, [b:94ad4608a8]ELECTRONIC INGNITION:[/b:94ad4608a8]

There is an inline fuse that goes to the electronic ignition that I've replaced. The tractor will roll over, just not fire.

Can anyone help me trouble shoot? I've lost my expert mechanic.

Thanks. Allen

Do you have battery voltage to the coil?

What make/model EI do you have?

If it's a Pertronix unit, are you using suppression plug wires?

I bought the Petronix unit and had it installed by a local guy that specialized in N series tractors. Unfortunately, that gentleman isn't around anymore.

How do I know if I have suppression plug wires or not?

Thanks, Bruce.

Call Pertronix and they will tell you how to
troubleshoot it without letting the smoke
out.

Unless you put suppression wires on it,
chances are they are copper core. Look at
the end of the wire.

According to Pertronix, they have
experienced module failures due to RFI from
copper wires. That might be your problem.

Hey again, Mr. Bruce. I checked and I do have voltage to the coil, and it looks as if I have copper wires. When you said that Petronix has module failure, does that mean my unit is bad now? Or will replacing with suppression wires fix the issue?

Thanks as always

You won't know if the module is bad unless you test it. If you call Pertronix they will tell you exactly how to test it and they MAY replace the unit under warranty because you do not have suppression wires and they never told you they were required.

If the module is defective, suppression wires will not bring it back to life.
