Filling Tires with Methanol

I got 10 gallons of methanol that I would like to use to fill my 14.9 x 24 tires. I have one of those HF 12V water pumps that I would like to use to place the mixture in the tires. I am aware that pumping straight methanol would be a safety hazard. A 14.9 x 24 tire can hold 47 gallons. What if I would dilute, say 40 gallons of water with 4 gallons of methanol? In the sand hills of NC I don’t need a strong mixture.
Would a 10:1 mixture be a safe procedure to use? I read people use WW with a pump like mine, which I assume the alcohol content is not much different. Your thoughts?

methanol

8% + 23
10% + 12
20% + 5
25% -5
33% -45

I keep 55 gal of GOOD clean used coolant just to load tractor tires. You are welcome to all you want I have a endless supply. Bring you pump and a drum are I have discarded 1 gal coolant jugs. I siphon it out myself...

Hobo, thanks for the info and offer. The 10% formula is what I was looking for. I still would like to use what I have if I can get confirmation on the safety issue. Another way I can transfer is by using 1/3 HP submersible that I have. I just don’t know if it is a good idea to use that much pressure.

In local news, the disappearance of a beloved gentleman is quite a mystery. Family members say it was just an ordinary day when he went out to work on his tractor. It also has disappeared and officials think they may be together. In a related story, no one has an explanation for the bright flash and sonic boom yesterday afternoon. It is thought some incident may have occurred in nearby Ft. Bragg, but base officials say they can account for all nuclear bombs and aircraft.

e used alcohol (methanol) based antifreeze before ethylene glycol, so it can't be that much of a danger…..never heard of any incidents back in the 1940s, 50s.

Why not gravity feed the solution in?

I tried that but I was not successful. I used a funnel attached to a tubing with a T and another tubing for air. In theory it should have worked but it didn't. The valve was positioned at 12 o'clock but It was just not going in. What was I doing wrong?
Suggestions?

I got one to do and I got special filling that should bleed the air out. I plan on using a 30 gallon drum and lifting it with my other 8n with FEL. One of these days I will have to give it a try.

It's just the scientific name for what's in windshield washer fluid, commonly sprayed on windows every day, and yup it is flammable but it's not nitroglycerin by any means. Due caution is needed just the same as transferring any flammable liquid but it's not likely even as dangerous as gasoline

I looked into methanol when i filled my
16.9x24s. It was cheaper to just buy wwf
when it was on sale. Plus it's Blue and
matches my tractor :)
I used the water pump from my tile saw.
Let it pump while I did other stuff. Took a
couple hours to pump 60 gals/tire. Had to
burp it now and then. If I had access to
used anti freeze I would have used that.

Holy crap! I was wondering what happened to my neighbor, since he was pumping 100% methanol with a water pump.

Okay I got 40gal mixture in one tire with my little 12V pump . I mixed 10 gal each time and was no problem putting it in. Before I did this, I vacuumed the air out. The liquid went in with the tire valve at 11 o’clock. Now it is placed at 12 o’clock. It seems like if I open the valve the liquid will be gushing out.

What I like to know is how much liquid will be coming out, will it stop until the all the air is out, or should I go against the flow and try to place the valve core in?

I would like to know before I try that. By now you can tell I never did tire filling before.

(quoted from post at 19:08:12 11/17/16) Do you have that tire jacked up off of the ground?

Yes I did have the tire up. I got both tires filled now but I am still not sure about the technique of filling. According to my chart 14.9 x 24 tires hold 47 gal. I put 40 gal, but about 10 gal came out before I was able to insert the valve core. There is, filling at 10 o’clock and letting the air out at 12. Maybe I had residual water left in the tire that did not want to come out. The tires were filled with plain water before.
Anyway I should have at least 30 gal (250 lb.) in each tire and I am okay with it. Maybe I should have inserted the valve core when it was gushing out in full force?!?
