aux trans in 8n

I bought a '52 8n for parts with the aux trans. I am not sure how it works. It has 3 detents: forward, middle & rearward. Could someone tell me what I have got? Thanks in advance!

If lever is on the left side of trans of the tractor It could be a sherman, possibly a step-up or step-down or combo.
In the middle (neutral) detent will the lever pull out away from the tractor about 3/8" and move back towards the operator? The combo lever is shaped like a dogleg the step up/down is more straight with a bigger knob on top. Post phot if you can
