I may be totally wrong, but I thought idle was at the lowest point (toward the driver) and as you pushed the leveraway from you, engine rpm is supposed to go up. Mine is the exact opposite of this. I put a new carb on it but did not take the shaft out. How do i fix this?
Also, when initially ajusting the carb, are you supposed to do so with the govenor dissconnected? So it does not interfere with the setting?

If you are talking about a Ford tractor, up is slow, down is fast.
Any of them I own from N's through the x000 series are that way.

No, you do not disconnect the governor to adjust the carb.
In most cases it will race out of control when you start it with the
governor disconnected unless you are manually running the throttle.

Awsome! Now i need to tune carb and gov.
Does anyone know if those wireless tachs
from hf would work for setting carb rpm
and gov rpm? Do they give you engine rpm
or pulley rpm?
Thanks for all your help and patience!

stryped........why would HF be interested in PTO speed? Their engine tachometer just needs to know how many cylinders and their internal computer will take care of the rest. Specs fer yer N-tractor is 400 to 2200 rpms. When I adjust the M/S carb, I adjust the down pointing mainjet to 2-turns and LEAVITT!!! I adjust the side pointing idlemix fer FASTEST idle NOT smoothes idle. Understand the difference? Usually its about 1/8-1/4 turn. All yer futtzin has probably FLOODED the sparkies. Recommend AutoLite 437's gapped 0.025. Don't throw yer flooded sparkies away, just clean and DRY them one-atta-time in HOT runnin' engine and save'um fer the NEXT time (and there will be a next time) .........HTH, the amazed Dell
