I needed another 8N like a hole in the head, but

....this non-runner followed me home anyway.
Owner says it had bad tires so it sat, then he put new tires on it,
got it running again, then discovered the clutch disk is stuck to
the flywheel. So it sat a while longer before he decided to sell.
He unfortunately never got to drive it with the new tires no it.

Now it doesn't want to start again but I drug it home anyway.
Serial number would make it a late 1951.
Came as you see it with a pair of light duty tire chains.

Sure makes a good case for, "if you don't know how to work on machinery, you should not own an old tractor!"

"....this non-runner followed me home anyway." And I can't even get a stray dog to follow me home.

Some guys fall into a septic tank and come out smelling like a rose. LOL

Great score!!!!

Yes, they're diamond tread aluminum foot rests.
Kind of nice not having to tuck your feet behind the pedals.
A little too tall for me, my knees are too high.

I was tinkering with it after I brought it home today.
One issue was that the starter just spun.
The starter drive didn't engage the flywheel.
It didn't take a rocket scientist to solve that mystery.

After I cleaned up the starter I pulled the air cleaner tube off.
I figured this stuff I was digging out of the carb throat would
probably cause me some "runability" issues.

So I swapped the carb with one of my spares, drained all the
gas and added fresh, swapped the spark plugs with some
spares I had here. Cleaned and gapped the points, which really
need to be replaced, changed the TSC hard-as-a-rock spark
plug wires with some used ones I had around here and gave
it a whirl. Actually, quite a few whirls.

But it is no longer a non-runner!
It has a horrible exhaust leak at the muffler/manifold junction.
Easy enough to fix but it keeps me from hearing much else.
The oil pressure gauge doesn't work so I didn't run it long.

The ammeter (original loop style) either doesn't work or the
alternator isn't charging or isn't wired right. Nothing else on
it is wired the way I'd like so that wouldn't surprise me.

At the end of the day, it cost me several hours of work, some
spare parts I had laying around and new gas to get it running.
The clutch disk is still stuck to the flywheel. Another day.
I'm happy I gambled on it.
