Tore an 8n down due to no oil pressure and a noticeable knock, knock, knock. The oil pump was rebuilt a year a go by a retired Ford
Mercury tech. He died before he finished. Had the pump installed but not the pan. Someone else put it together but didn't prime
the pump. The owner brought the 8n to me. The noise was the #2 rod hitting the oil pickup tube.Punch a hole in the tube. The crank
look good will need new bearings. I also found a tooth broke off the cam gear. I bet they put the governor bolts in the wrong
holes.

Someone has already spend a lot of money of this old Ford. Lot of new bolts in it.

I also found a complete starter drive in the bell housing. I have found parts or starter drives inside N's. This is the first time
I've found a complete drive. Looks like it would still work if it had a pin.

Rod hitting the oil pump tube is caused by installing the pan with the oil drain screen/plug installed. Lowering the engine down to the pan causes that when the tube pickup hits the plug screen when it is not aligned right.. It will make a knock, knock too.

Don't ask how I know. Happened to me 51 years ago.
