ford 2n trans/hydro oil question

I have a 47 ford 2n can I use super tech tractor hydraulic and trans
oil from Walmart ? can find the weight 80?90? says compatible with
ford tractors ? bucket is yellow and green . wanna make sure before I
fill it up already drained old out thanks for any help

I have been suffering over the issue of hydraulic oil in my 8N and have come to the conclusion that there is a difference between ( Hydraulic oil) and (Hydraulic Transmission oil)

I just put Ambra Mastertran Ultraction Hydraulic Transmission oil in mine and it seems to be doing fine except when I am lifting something heavy, the lift comes up slow unless the engine is reved up a little.

It is sold at New Holland dealers $79.00 for 5 gal. bucket.

See tips 3 & 4 at the link. You have other alternatives.

Google the specs for the super tech oil. Chances are very good that it meets Ford spec MC134.

This the stuff? There are others that are not (the one with the big 303 label for example).

"This Super Tech Heavy-Duty Tractor Hydraulic and Transmission Fluid is specially formulated with only the finest quality, high-viscosity index base oils and an advanced and rigorously tested additive system to deliver unsurpassed protection and performance. It offers exceptional protection against wear from microscopic contaminants and higher operating temperatures and pressures, and ensures long equipment life. This Super Tech transmission fluid contains critically balanced frictional characteristics that ensure precise clutch and wet brake operation with unsurpassed chatter suppression. It also prevents acid formation for exceptional protection against rust and corrosion and meets the following requirements: Allison C-4; John Deere J20A/B/C, J21A, Hygard J14 B/C, Type 303; Case JIC-145, Hy-Tran, MS-1207, 1208, 1209 and 1220; Caterpillar TO-2; Deutz Allis; [b:60f48b9cc3]Ford New Holland ESN-M2C134-D[/b:60f48b9cc3]; International Harvester HY-Tran B-6; Kubota; and many more."

Standard SAE 90W mineral oil will work fine in most climates...CNH Oil can be expensive as Jack said -$80/5 gallon pail.

The stuff TSC sells is just SAE 90 W Gear Oil and may be the cheapest price-wise. I use to use the 134 Ford/Case/IH/White/ AGCO/New Holland brand but stopped when it hit $50 per 2.5 gallon jug. I switched to the TSC stuff after I put it in a '49 8N job I did for a neighbor per his request, and it worked fine so I have been using it in mine now for 8 years now without any issues. I live in Michigan so we get winter as early as October and late into April/May even. I plow snow for the neighborhood and have never had any lift issues. It depends on how much you want to spend on oil I guess but there is plenty of discussion on viscosities and brands in the archives here...

I bought 90 weight non detergent mineral oil at NAPA, they have it in gal and 5 gal containers,

Worked fine for me

Many folks replace the 90 weight non detergent mineral oil with 15w40 detergent oil,

At this point in the life cycle of these old tractors, detergent verse not detergent transmission, hyd oil is a mute point

Detergent oil is to be used in tractors with transmission hyd lift systems that have filters

Non detergent oil is to be used in tractors that do not have these filters

You seem to want to lump anti-oxidants, rust and corrosion inhibitors, metal deactivators, copper passivators, friction reducers/modifiers, foam suppressants, and most notably anti-wear/scuff (e.g. EP) additives all into your "detergents" basket. Modern tractor transmission/hydraulic fluids containing many different combinations of those additives are designed for and work quite well in filter-less common sump transmission/final drive/hydraulic lift systems. The same can not be said of engine oils of any grade.
