8n pto shaft reinstallation problem

I just installed a hydraulic pump rebuild kit on my 8n. All went back together well except when I tried to reinstall the pto shaft. If the brass pto shaft bushing is in place in the back of the pump, the shaft will not reinsert properly. If I leave the bushing out, the shaft will reinsert properly. I finally got the shaft reinserted with bushing only partially in the pump but it causes to much tension on the shaft. Has anybody dealt with this or have any suggestions.

A few months ago I purchased a rebuild kit that had bushings way out of spec and had to return it. You may have a similar issue.

If a brass bushing is a little too tight you should be able to
ream or hone it to fit. I haven't had to do one on the PTO
shaft but I've had to do them on the front end spindles.

I would want to make sure it was actually too tight and not
a case of misalignment first. Does it fit the shaft when out?
