sherman trans

All Shermans share oil with the transmission and there's no way, or need to check the level if you keep your trannt/rear end up to proper level.
The downside of that is there's no way to drain one unless you split the tractor and remove it.
So any water and crud that is in the rest of the tractor can never get drained when you change fluids.

Oil is added by a slinger that is on the shaft that goes into the trans
As long as the trans is full you'll be ok

well guys that what I thought but my brother insists you have to spilt the tractor to Add OIL TO SHERM. I will send him your reply's.

Ah, brotherly love. I suppose you could let him do that.
Then again, if he doesn't really know, what else would he break in the process?

Doggy........while the Sherman tranny was shipped dry from the factory, you were instructed to add 1-qt of tranny oil upon installation. (4-bolts) The main tranny front bearing is splash lubed by an oil slinger which also lubes the the sherman thru the bearing. 1-qt of oil outta 5-gals of hydro-tranny oil is not much contamination to worry about. ........HTH, the oily Dell
