starter switch

Had a bad day today, when I started to start (Old Cora) Ford 2 N the switch didn't feel right and has gone bad so I jumped it with a jump at the solonoid. My question is can the switch be got out and replaced without taking loose the whole plate or can I get it out thru the fill hole some way. I'm thiking the simplest way would be to do away with the safety feature starter button and put one up on the dash like My old early 9 N had and got by with it for years with no safety lock. Pat. No, don't replace it with a non-safety switch. See tip # 28.

Unless someone put a solenoid on it, a 2N doesn't have a solenoid. It has a mechanical starter switch. When you press down on the starter button, a piece of linkage engages the starter switch.

So, do you have a solenoid or a starter switch?
