Yes i have a 1952 ford 8n side mount
tractor. My main adjust needle on my carb
has to be 4 turns out for the tractor to run
but it is blowing black smoke using to much
fuel but if i turn it in it will die. Of i
turn it 1.5 or even 2 turn out it will not
even start. I pulle the plug out of the
buttome of the carb and gas does drain out
any ideas would be amazing im lost.

Thank you so much im new to the fourm. I no tsc has to different rebuild kits a basic one and one with all the needs and buterflys and stuff which one do u recomend? Will the carb rebuild be fine or should i look into a new carb just cant see why its working 4 turns out but not 2 very confusing lol.

Clogged internal passages and jets could easily cause the problems you're having. If it were me, I'd buy the full carb kit so I'd know I had everything I needed and a clean slate to start with.

Overhauling the carb is a lot more than installing the parts in the kit. a good soaking in a carb cleaner followed by my running a wire thru every passageway and blowing them out with a rubber tipped air nozzle. If you have doubts or do not want to buy a gallon of carb cleaner, you might be better off having your carb rebuilt.

A weak spark can absolutely ignite an over-rich mixture, but not a proper mixture. Usually this is accomplished by holding the choke knob out a little, but if the main jet screw makes the engine belch black smoke at four turns out, you are getting a rich mixture.

Anyway, if you have a hot snappy blue spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap, yep, probably time for some carb work.

It sounds like the venturi has been removed from your carb so that the fuel entering is not being atomized. Or, the fuel is somehow bypassing the delivery into the venturi and going straight up the intake in raw form.

Two spring loaded rod ends, two nuts, one hose clamp and the fuel line, and that carb will come right off the tractor. If you don't feel comfortable with the process of cleaning and rebuilding, take it to a tractor shop. They will set you up right.

Thank you for all the replies. I have checked spark and its gerting good spark regapped the points, new condensor and rotor button cleaned the carb. Got a new governor but waiting to get it runnjng correctly before i install that. Looks like a trip to tsc. And ill let it soak it cleaner and do a complete rebuild and hope it work. Thanks again will def post more on what j find out after i get threw the rebuild..

" Looks like a trip to tsc."

Hopefully not for a rebuild kit.

Not many folks around here (myself included) have had much luck w/ any tractor parts from TSC.

Get your parts here or from Just 8N's.

Get shirts & chicken feed at TSC.

"should i look into a new carb"

I would not buy a new carb. I would rebuild it. Not that difficult. Do as others suggest and get a gallon can of carb soak. Disassemble the carb and let all the parts soak overnight. Blow out the passages with compressed air. I would try the lower cost kit, but I would not buy it from TSC.

You can buy a complete kit from this site and pay the
shipping for less than one costs at my local TSC.
If you're in the continental U.S.

The main factor is getting it clean. Every passageway.
Installing the kit is easy, the important work comes way
before you start putting the parts into the carb.

If you want help with it, my email is open.
