this happened this morning. I sent an email then added a new email address to my contact list. went back awhile later to send another email and my contact list vanished. next time I check for emails I have two new ones and my contact list reappears.

AOL? Win 10? spooks? gremlins?

"AOL? Win 10? spooks? gremlins?"

E. all of the above ;)

seriously, tho - i'd only be guessing, but more info would help. am i right in guessing u are talking about an aol email address?

next - how exactly do u access your email? do u use your browser to go to a webmail page, or do u have an email client which pulls mail from your account?

in lieu of more info, i'd order the likelihood of the suspects like this:

AOL
spooks/gremlins (tie)
win 10

the address I added was for the N Newletter.

as far as I know I access email thru aol? aol PAGE THEN CLICK RNVELOPE THINGY. (icon?)

ok, then imo, u can rule out windows. your contact list is stored on AOL's servers. if it's missing, temporarily or permanently, that's on AOL, not microsoft.

Steve,

Some AOL shenanigans:

User Names

Passwds

Personally I never have and never will use web-based email programs (where you have to use a browser to access your mail) but rather standalone email clients.

I'm a Mac user but while recovering with new hip all I had was a windows laptop so I went looking for an email program to download. I found Windows Live Mail (no browser required)
and it worked well. But in the downloading of it, where the part came up about accepting the "LIVE" aspect of it . . . I declined that part but still the email "client" or "program functioned perfectly.

I figured that the "live" aspect of it established an open door connection, that would leave me as open to invasiveness as I would be with any web-based email.

Web-Based email examples: Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail

I have had good luck with gmail.

no problems at all. I also use google chrome for a browser and it works great with win 10.

we have had AOL for 20 years and no junk like this went on until we went over to Win 10. just checked emails and the contacts are back.

AOL access is through a website. All data is stored on the AOL servers. Nothing is stored locally. It has nothing to do with windows 10 or your local computer.

There is likely a glitch going on with your internet connection, or at AOL HQ. It may be timing out before it can download the contact list which then results in your contact list showing as empty. It could be a maintenance going on at AOL that is taking certain features temporarily offline while they are updated or obsolete data is removed.
