Oil Pump guts

There are two versions, early is 9/16" gear length Later is 3/4" gear length.

Are there other differences, gear or shaft diameter? Cause, if not I may try making a spacer of something suitable, Aluminum or Steel. To push a little more oil.

I have modest machining facilities. Definitely enough to make a spacer an maybe some mods to pump body/end cap.

That is going to change the position of the oil pump pickup. I think you will find it much easier to simply put the newer pump on the tractor.

My overhaul guy said gears were binding so He added extra gaskets. Suspect He put wider gears in. Hasn't blown out yet in 4 years, but still watching gauge. Didn't improve pressure.

9/16 = .5625. 3/4 = .7500. That would be a [b:428dd7ce7e]LOT[/b:428dd7ce7e] of gaskets. You never know but getting it fixed right might have actually helped the pressure....

I think maybe the gasket(s) give the gears a little more clearance than the housing, not sure. That is why I was thinking of boring a piece of metal. Maybe soft aluminum would suffice as a gasket, dual purpose.

Humm, not sure. I was thinking it would just extend the cap end.

I have had problems for years. There was a galled, raised bur in the cap. I will have to deal with when I get in there.

The pump was loosing it's prime. You set me to priming the pump years ago. Probably saved the crank shaft.

Oh, I was using Mobile one for a while and it was the worst for loosing prime. Now using the cheap 10-40 from Walley's and it holds for a good week.

I think you have me confused with someone else. I don't recommend repeatedly priming the pumps - I recommend fixing the problem. In your case I think it is time for a new pump. Better that than a whole new engine....
