OT (about that dash cam)

Friday morning as we were headed north on the PA turnpike in fairly heavy rain I started to pass a 18 wheeler who was behind another 18 wheeler. as I got alongside and just behind the truck cab I saw his left turn signal go on and over he came. I headed for the shoulder. luckily he saw our vehicle but not before me and wife were scared out of our wits. a dash cam may have come in handy had we made contact.

Glad u dodged the bullet..Been several really bad accidents near us on I-55 lately.A guy who works for me lost his Sister in law and nephew in one of these accidents..A well trained 18 wheeler driver amazes me but these days new drivers I think they might not get the training they need before they are put out on the road..

Not saying you didn't, but I've noticed a lot of drivers of cars and trucks of all sizes not having their headlights on when visibility is poor. And when you , anyone in general are passing trucks don't dilly dally along side of them. The quicker you get around them the better off everyone involved will be.

Another good tip is to never pass a semi truck on the right side. If you do make sure you have an "OUT". Meaning their is another lane to your right or a wide shoulder as a way to avoid any misshaps in case he can't see you. You may be in a position where he can't see you in his mirror, they are called blind spots.

glad you escaped, but for info from a truck driver, you were in his blind spot, most truck mirrors dont cover the area down low right by the sleeper area on the tractor a spot mirror may, but sometimes there set to individual tastes, most mirrors are set to see the road along side the trailer and dont cover that area, when being passed, most overtaking cars take but a second or 2 to cover that area and be visible out the window of the cab,if the driver didnt look out there that was his bad

yeah I know about the blind spot, drove trucks in the army and after, which is why I didn't blame him. man it was raining, water spraying everywhere just glad I saw his turn signal go on.
