9n PTO Shift Lever

My PTO shift lever swings freely and doesn't seem to engage anything. I am mechanically inclined, but I don't know the first thing about these n tractors. I have done some reading and bought a book about the tractor, but I think I have some oddities. It has a large spring holder what I believe to be the PTO collar back, but I don't see anything about a spring in any of my reading. I will add pictures. I don't know what the shift fork is suppose to connect to engage the PTO.

Mounted to the bottom rear of the transmission inside the housing should be the PTO shifter assembly (see photo). The PTO shaft goes through this assembly. The PTO shift lever should engage with the groove on the end of the shifter shaft that sticks out the top rear of the shifter assembly. Moving this shaft in and out moves a sliding sleeve to engage or disengage the PTO.

Are you sure you have a ford tractor? does not look right for sure.

haha, fair question, but its a n certainly. I believe its a 9n.

Here is a photo of the tractor with the freeman loader on it. It has a concrete ballast on the 3 point currently.[/img]
