Safety switch replacement ?

I'm seriously thinking about replacing the safety starter button on my 46 2N. Do I need to remove the steering column and the dash along with the top transmission cover to do it? How big of a choir is this going to be? Right now I just have a little remote button on the dash. I have a bad habit of standing in front of the rear tire when I start it and sooner or later it's come home to haunt me.

ou have a remote button on the dash of a 2N??????
Must be a big button! With Ought gauge wires to it?

(quoted from post at 03:58:36 09/29/16) No it's not big, that's not the answer to my question.
orry, Steve, but when you mention a button on dash, you completely confuse me, since there isn't a button on dash of a 9N/2N. From the factory, there was a mechanical button which moved a pivoting arm which pushed a push-rod into an electrical switch tied to battery & starter. Now, what part of all that are you wanting to replace? What is currently there?

Here is a diagram of the parts JMOR was referring to. #8 is the starter button, #14 is the starter switch. #5 is the gear shifter lock in the transmission and prevents the starting in gear. I had a 2N once that started in gear and found #5 had broken.

Im wanting to replace the original starter button with the neutral safety switch that's in front of the stick shift lever. It was bypassed long before I ever bought this tractor. I wat it so the tractor has to be in neutral before it it able to start. Some shade tree screw twisting idiot put a smaller chrome starter button on the dash when the original one quit working, along with a toggle switch to replace the ignition switch that I a
AlReady replaced with a keyed ignition switch back in its original spot. The electrical system on this tractor was a mess when I brought it home. I gave $400 under the sellers asking price because it wouldn't start until I got it home and cleaned up the rats nest of wires wadded up under the dash.

(quoted from post at 18:55:25 09/29/16) Someone must of added starter relay that operates off pushbutton switch. It would have to be discarded and wiring moved to mechanical switch shown in diagram.
he wires to switch #14 in the diagram were cut a long time ago. I'll getter figured out now that that light came on in my head. "DAHHHH" LOL

(quoted from post at 22:04:46 09/29/16) I can see a new wiring harness in the near future as well. Thanks gents

Careful what part you order, there are 2 starter switches, 1 is for the 1940 dash mount..
