55 Ford 960 3 pt stopped raising

So I was using the bush hog on the 55 ford 960
As I had the rotary cutter raised I noticed the 3pt was lowering slowly then suddenly it would jer k. It would do this every 8-10 seconds

I mowed for 45 minutes then suddenly the 3pt just dropped all the way and would not raise.

I had fluid, I tried shooting air in the hydraulic dipstick hole, and still nothing.
I had a guy tell me to burp the hydraulics. So in doing this, I was to have 960 running, at low rpm, barely idling, and take off the allen plug to top of hydraulic pump, make sure I see oil, and replace. In doing this I had hydraulic oil come gushing out of there and not stopping!! I though it would maybe splatter a little but at best, or if nothing, you add a little. I was not expecting it to come gushing out! I was very very low rpm also

Any ideas? Was that not the right step to troubleshoot the 3pt not raising? I can try something else...

The hydraulic fluid was not dork brown it to me was more carmel or maybe even mor like coffee and cream. Which to me was water in oil.
Thoughts?

I know nothing about the 960, I have a 2N that I bought several years ago and the hydronic flued was the color you discribed. It had gotten water in it from sitting outside in the rain for god knows how many years. If you had a gusher its not the pump that's preventing the arms from lifting. Although it's not good on it to run contaminated oil through the pump and it should be changed as soon as you correct the other problem. My tractor has 3 drain plugs , if the 960 has more than one make sure you open all of them or you'll be putting good oil on top of bad and you'll be replacing it again. Sorry. I can't help with the arms not lifting. I'm sure someone here can help you. Good luck.

Yep, you got water in the oil. Easily changed and I would change
it while doing the repair, but not your current lift issue.

I'm no hydraulic expert, let me be clear on that point, still,
the hiccuping makes me think you had a leak at the cylinder or
the gaskets under (above) it and that the feedback mechanism
worked and was re-adjusting the lift.

Can you see through the fill cover and tell if fluid is leaking from
it? It may be raining down inside there. An inspection mirror and
a good light may help pin-point what is going on inside before
disassembling anything.

You can read about what my next step would be in this link. Manually operate the lift if it works the cover is coming off.

Now you can git a mirror and stand on your head it may not help it never helped me on a hundred series tractor. I am not sure why my technique has never caught on  other than folks are brain washed into giving pattern answers.

"Now you can git a mirror and stand on your head"

Why would he need to stand on his head to see through
the fill cover? It's right there on top, just under the seat.
