Graded driveway Saturday for over an hour with scrape blade then dropepd the blade to pull a bucketful of rock out of the grass, let the clutch out and heard a pop. Tractor wont move at all, PTO and lift work fine. Pulled the dipstick inspection cover and saw this

another should be here Friday with a gasket kit, got my work cut out for me this weekend I think, love these old tractors

And any advice at this point would be greatly appreciated, this forum has been a wealth of information for me so far!

Keep us posted as how you repair it. We may have the same problem tomorrow.

I will, my parts should be here tomorrow and with any luck at all I will make the repair Saturday, still need to finish grading the driveway :D

Hopefully that is all that's broken. I would pull the side cover,
pull the PTO shaft, drain tranny, hyd, rear and replace fluid,d top
and clean pump.
Probably sounds like more work than it really is. Good luck with
your split. Should be up and running in no time.

I plan to drain all the fluid, clean the sump as best I can and fill with new fluid, probably wont clean the pump this time around. Everything looks pretty clean in there actually for its age.

I hope thats all thats broken too, with the lift cover removed I can start the tractor and put it in gear, the part of this shaft on the shaft that comes out of the transmission turns but of course the rest of it wont. I have a short video but no place to put it for viewing. Actually it turns when not in gear but I can just touch it and it will stop, guess the clutch disc is making very light contact. I have a new clutch and pressure plate on the shelf but I'm not sure I'm ready to tackle that with deer season just opening, probably be a spring project.

alrite, everything went well, parts arrived Friday, Saturday I conned a friend into helping which was a godsend. Getting and keeping everything lined up while putting it back together would have been frustrating alone. Also would have not been fun reinstalling the lift cover alone. I wish I had greased the splined shafts and the coupler before reassembly, it may have helped when trying to slide it all back together. Realized too late my oil changing pan with the 1/2" hole cant deal with the flood of hydraulic fluid from an 8N drain plug  but it went well after the clean up. Once everything was assembled and fluid filled to the bottom hole on the inspection plate (thanks Bruce for the 75 tips) it fired up, went into gear and drove it out of the workshop, seems to be as good as it was before breaking :D

FWIW, I got my coupler on ebay for 5.99 and 12 bucks shipping, it was used but looked to be in fine shape, splines were clean and not worn at all, fit perfectly.

I think brakes, seals and clutch is in the plans for the spring

Thanks for all the info on this site guys!

Heres a pic of the sheared end of the coupler, hopefully it was just tired and gave up at the weld.
