Radiator Flush?

Hi All, Do you all find it necessary to use a radiator flush when you drain and replace antifreeze? What brand? Thanks in advance.

In my opinion doing a radiator flush is waste of time and money. If you did a complete change when you bought the tractor you are good for at least 10 years. Something will come up that will force you to drain the anti freeze. Change it at that point. I have had my 9N for 30 years and have never used a "flush". I have had the radiator out and ran lots of wager through the block and radiator to clean out any loose debris.

I use a flush when I do a scheduled change on the antifreeze.
Usually Prestone brand, only because it is what's available.
I can't say it's any better than any other brand.

Antifreeze isn't just anti-freeze. It is also coolant and anti-corrosion.
I wouldn't recommend leaving it for extended periods of time.
It's not that expensive to change compared to the alternatives.

You're right that the alternative is more costly than changing the coolant on a regular basis. Thanks for the reply. Preston

In decades past, I sometimes used commercial flush chemicals when changing coolant. After multiple water pump seal failures "coincidently" after doing so I stopped doing so.

In the last 25 or 30 years since using flush chemicals I have had no "coincidental" water pump seal failures after changing coolant.
