starter switch

Starter switch? No, but it will burn up your points & lights & probably your coil as well.

How do you suppose a 6v generator is going to charge an 8v battery?

Why did you put an 8v battery in it? Is the tractor hard to start? There are plenty of things you can do to fix that & buying an 8v battery isn't one of them.

I'd clean all the grounds, replace the battery cables & either convert it to 12v or get it back to 6v.

(quoted from post at 12:01:43 09/21/16) I put an 8 volt battery in my 2n. Is an 8 volt battery harmful to a standard starer switch? Thanks
ot at all. Even 12v won't harm those. And if your 2N still has factory generator with a cut out, it will actually even charge your 8v battery. Don't worry so much.

I have 2 tractors with a 6 volt generator That I can use a 6 or 12 volt battery & keep it charged. They both have mags & don't use the lights.

Nope, won't hurt the switch. Will probably work fine.
My concern with an 8V battery is finding a charger when needed.
I have one. Sold by Montgomery Wards. Whenever that was.

I was going to convert one of my 8N's to 12V this week.
Then I realized there is so much original on this tractor that
I didn't want to do it. It has the original loop style ammeter in
it that still works. It may be the original. The proofmeter still
works too, showing 51xx hours on it. I think I'll leave it 6V.
Starts and runs fine, charges as it should, lights all work, etc.
so no need to change it at this point.

You don't see an original hour meter still working on an 8n. Grandpa bought a new 8n in 52 for $1200. Dad said the HM also quit
at 1200 hrs.

I can't swear that one is original either, but it's at
least 5169 hours old and still working.

" It has the original loop style ammeter in

for what it's worth, my 12v 2N has a working loop style ammeter, which helped me to realize finger tight on big wire on alternator is not good enough
