I have included a picture of a threaded hole in the left side of the engine on my 1950 8N by the oil filter. I have recently acquired and am still evaluating condition. I all photos of
the 8N I can find, this hole is not there. Does anyone know what it is for? Thanks.

Agri238 , is a welch (?Freeze?) plug, Ford p/n 353454-S, 1-3/16? NAPA 219-1021.Check the rest of them and replace them if needed.Remove the block drain and flush out the block with a water hose while you have them out.

Since you say its threaded I'd say its the block drain, there should be a brass petcock threaded in.

MNGB,The block drain is down a little lower and toward the rear more, smaller 1/4"NPT hole. There is no threads in that welsh plug hole.

What Den said. It is the hole for the welch plug on the #2 cylinder. Below is a picture from when I changed out all of mine.

Hope this helps.

(quoted from post at 21:32:43 09/21/16) Ok I was just going by his post saying it was threaded.

Someone may have threaded it for reasons unknown. Possibly to install a temperature gauge, block heater of some sort, or just a pipe plug to replace the welch plug.
