So I disassembled the 9N engine and am putting it back together. But, I failed to record the orientation of the valve springs which have more turns on one end than the other. Which end sets against the bottom? ALso, what is the correct procedure to set the valve lash? Thanks to all who can help. :?

Igobill,The valve springs should be positioned with the close coils facing up to the valve seat.Valve clearance/lash Intake - .010 - .012 cold, Exhaust - .014 - .016 cold.Set the valves starting with "1 cylinder compression stroke with the piston on TDC.Then just follow the Firing order.(1) 2-4-3 TDC to set the rest.

Thanks a lot Den n Ms, it seem I accidently assembled the first one correctly, 50 50 chance. Also thanks for the adjustment info. I am a retired computer scientist and the only relation to the engine is the binary number of items: 4 cylinders, 8 valves, etc. The 3 mains sort of screws it up though.
