Split the 8n today

Well i was dreading having to do it but it really wasnt bad at all. The ring gear was badly worn on the flywheel is why i split it. I bought a new ring gear and a new clutch set. Figured i would replace them while in there. I think it took longer to build the bracket for the swing away jack than it did to actually split it. Got the old ring gear off and tomorrow im going to put it all back together. New clutch pressure plate pilot bearing throw out bearing flywheel ring gear and shaft seal. Will be glad to have it back going for sure.

In for an ounce, in for a pound.
I would have the flywheel resurfaced too.
Unless you meant that you bought a new one.
I see it in the list but wasn't quite sure since there would be no
reason to take the old ring gear off if you had a new flywheel.

A new gear deserves a new drive  The starter should be checked for ware and freshen up.

When I have the flywheel off I install the clutch assy to the flywheel, then put a 3/8 nut between each finger and cover.
Remove the assy install the flywheel then clutch assy. The nuts keep the pressure off the clutch plate while assembling. It pulls up nice and even and the plate aligns with no effort. Remember to catch the nuts as they fall out.

NO air wrench are electric impact is used to assy the clutch to the flywheel, the cover bolts can not take a impact wrench they will snap off BTDT...

Got it slid back together. The dowels i made helped but was a little to long. Had a little trouble with the ring gear. Its a simple deal when done correctly. I watched the wrong video on utube and it didnt go so well. So another 25.00 later and a better video on the correct way to install it and it worked great. Just got a few things to put back on and i will get it started up. Gonna finish it in the morning. The trailer jack worked ok but next time i will make something with two wheels on each side.

That swingaway jack just solved a problem that has kept me from splitting one of my 8Ns. Now I can have 3 working tractors again!

Here's an odd question; what are those ring gears made of? I hate to toss out good metal if I can forge it into something else useful.
