8N loose crank pulley

Doing some misc. repairs on an 8N, including a loose crank pulley. The bolt (or whatever you want to call that slotted b*****d that holds the pulley on) was tight, but the pulley had a
lot of play. When I got the pulley off, the keyway slot on the pulley was wallowed out a bit. Pulled the timing cover off to check things over and the keyway sticks out not even a
quarter of an inch past the oil slinger. Does this imply that a some point the tractor was run with the pulley loose? Honestly, with no more than that keeping the pulley lined up, I
can't imagine how it would NOT eventually get worn out to the point that it wobbles.

I had a similar problem with my 8n a year or so back. Engine making tap tap noise exactly like bearing knock. Took off the fan belt and the knock
went away and rattling the crank pulley it was clear that it had in and out play and the bolt couldn't be tightened far enough to make the play go
away. Made/found a washer to go around the tip of the crank nose so it could could be drawn up into the washer as the nut was tightened,
eliminating the play and allowing the pulley to be really tightened. The noise went, and has stayed, away.

Can't remember the exact details, but it's pretty easy to figure out once apart.
