New to me 8N

Just picked up an 8N. Has a "stuck" motor. It's an older one with a front mount disty. Going to pull the plugs and fill with ATF & diesel, let soak. The fuel tank is also pretty rusty. Debating between cheap white vinegar or Evapo-Rust (quit a few bucks more). Once she running I'll worry about the tires. I think I did OK on the price. Bought it on CL.

Try the evapo-rust. It might actually do some good. Vinegar won't. Chances are it's will need a new tank because the rust will come back. And given the time & expense involved in lining a tank compared to the cost of a new one, I'd buy a new one.

Check out the tips at the link. Tip # 39 suggests the manuals you will need.

Not my first Ford Tractor. Had a 9N years ago that had some low oil pressure. The connecting rod decided to pop out the side of the block and say Hi! Had it parked at a friends place up north and back when scrap metal prices were high it disappeared. I've had a replacement motor in the garage for a few years now. So if I can't get this motor unstuck I'll swap it.

On the fuel tank, doesn't look good. Not going to waste a lot of time/money in it. I know replacements are cheap. I've dealt with rusty tanks before and have learned replacing them is a whole lot easier than constantly cleaning out fuel screens.

After soaking Pistons in ATF & diesel for the last 3 days and using my homemade crank I did get a small amount of movement. Maybe 1/16th of a turn. Let it sit for another 24 hours and try again. Not in any hurry, but it was nice to see a little movement.

He said only the right wheel had calcium chloride. The other side has minimal rust in comparison. Granted all 4 tires are shot.

ou don't really know for sure till he takes it off the rim. Only one of my rims looked bad from the outside , but when the tire man took the other one off it was worst than we thought and I ended up replacing both rims.
