Help with Jump Starting a 2N Please

After reading Tip #43 www.yesterdaystractors.com/articles/artint268.htm which reads which reads:
To jumpstart a 6-volt tractor with a 12-volt battery, put the tractor in neutral, block the wheels and turn the key on. Place one jumper cable on the stud on the starter. Make sure the tractor is in neutral, because when you place the other jumper cable on the frame of the tractor, the starter will engage and turn the engine over.

What I am curious about is, why isn't it specified which cable is placed on the starter stud? Can I assume the stud is the negative cable? This is a standard 6 volt system.

That's odd. I just asked this, yet nothing was in my post:

WHat the heck is going on here? I tried twice to post and finally on the third attempt, I see only two words. Here goes the entire post again, man this is frustrating.

As Royse said, it doesn't matter. The
starter doesn't care about polarity.

What does matter is hooking up the first
cable to the starter stud. If you hook it up
after the other cable is connected to the
chassis, it will arc and can easily melt the
copper stud.
