Ford n battery is always dead

Hello I have been having some issues with the tractor staying charged I was hoping someone might have an idea of what the problem is I am new to the tractor rebuilding world and this is my first tractor that I have restored the tractor runs great I have no other issues besides the battery is always dead when I go out to start it here is the diagram I used to wire my tractor

2 possibilities.

1, battery is junk, and just goes dead.

to test this. take battery out, or at least unhook it.

if it is dead when you go to use it.. junk battery.

if not, then find out what is staying on.

put a test lamp in line with one of the cables. I like the ground cable... the lamp should come on, if there is a draw.

now start disconnecting wires one at a time, one circuit at a time till the lamp goes off. first place I'd start is the alternater, next the ignition coil.

I put a master cutoff switch on my 52 in the neg ground cable. I put it in the dash just to the right and below the switch key. Always turn it off when parking it.
Not a problem since I did that.

The battery is brand new but I was wondering if it is going dead since the battery is always going from the starter switch to the ampmeter then it runs to the alternator I am guessing the alternator is draining the battery but not sure I followed this wiring diagram

The shutoff switch might keep the battery from draining, but it does nothing to solve the problem. It should be easy to find. the problem. Take the battery and alternator into an auto parts house and have them checked. A bad alternator will drain a battery.

If you dont even know how you wired it, how do you expect us to help?

Alt charge, thru ammeter to battery ( via lug on relay), is a correct net charge circuit hookup.

If 3 wire alt, make sure 1/2 hooked correct.. 2 to charge stud, 1, to switch /resistor/diode isolated source of switched power.

Shaddiesel,To find out if the alternator is at fault,if you have a one wire alternator just disconnect the charge wire from the alternator overnight to see if your battery goes dead or not.The regulator in the alternator could be bad causing the battery to drain.

I will try that, the battery and the alternator r brand new iv had them on the tractor for just a couple weeks the alternator only has the one wire hooked up on it at the back side of the alternator but on the top side of the alternator there is place too hook up 2 more wires like a wiring harness plastic clip I'm not sure if I need to hook those up to something as well

(quoted from post at 12:01:00 09/12/16) The alternator seems to be the issue not sure why it's draining the battery, the alternator is brand new
hy does alt "seem to be" the issue?

Hi JMOR yes I believe it's the alternator that's the only thing
that always has power to it I followed your wiring diagram that
u recommend do u have a idea on what I should do, the
alternators brand new, dose the 3 wiring diagram change
anything the alternator has the battery hook up on the back
then it has the 2 wire hook ups on the top/ side of alternator I
only have the one hooked up just like your diagram thanks for
your help

hat diagram is for a 1-wire alternator. If your alternator is the standard GM automotive alternator that was not modified with the installation of a 1-wire regulator, then that is why it is not charging. You will then need these additions:

(quoted from post at 14:48:55 09/12/16) is it draining it from the charge stud, or the wire plug?
for one am not sure if he has a drain or if it simply never charges. Either makes for a dead battery.

Thats the problem then, my alternator looks just like that one
and it is a gm alternator I will wire it up like u have shown
thanks a lot JMOR u have been a Hugh help threw this whole
project
