'50 8n Loss of power under load problem solved

Recently I experienced an unusual problem of loss of power under load. Maybe this post may help someone with the frustrating problem that I just experienced. When I had the tractor out last time for light mowing it ran just fine. When I went to use it again about a month later it would bog down and loose power when I lowed the belly mower and engaged the PTO to mow. It felt like gas starvation but, all screens were clean and had good gas flow out the bottom of the carb. The engine idled smooth and carb settings were correct. Ignition wires all connected on the proper firing order to the s/plugs and distrb. Plugs, wires, distrb cap, points and rotor have less than 50 hrs on them. Turns out that the ignition points mounting screw/s had loosened up and caused the point gap to close up considerably. I re-gaped the points to the proper gap air space and made sure the mounting screws were snugged down firmly. Engine fired right up and ran like a new again. Spent several hours mowing today without incident. Best, Preston
