'50 8n Side Mount Distr: Setting Point Gap

Good Morning All,

I need to check the gap on my ignition points. How do you all turn over the crank to have the point block resting correctly on the distbr shaft? I have a remote push-button starter switch but, forgot how to hook it up. Maybe I don't need to use the remote switch and can just turn the crank with the fan??? All thoughts and suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

Push down on the fan belt and turn the fan

Point gap is .025. Make sure the points
aren't burned or pitted and that they align
correctly. If you aren't using quality
points, you will get plenty of experience
changing them.

Hint: a plastic rubbing block means junk

Thank you Bruce for getting back to me so soon. What brand of quality points would you recommend? Also, do you have any thought on what brand of solid core s/plug wires that I should be using?

Best, Preston

I've always used whatever this site or nnalert's sells. W/ the sidemount, you can usually get them at NAPA.

Solid core copper is solid core copper; not much difference in brand as it is w/ the resistance wires.
