RE: Old post on missing spring for throttle/governor

Hi,
After looking at the spring situation on my 52 8N I have not asked the right question. The problem I am having is that the throttle does not return to the idle position when I move the handle all the way down. The old governor spring looks OK but I believe I need another "Spring (Gov. Compensating) 8N 9827. If this is so is this the only thing I need to do to keep the idle low when I pull the throttle lever all the way down? It runs OK at mid and top end throttle positions.

Thanks,
Alex

Not likely. I ran mine for years not knowing it should have one.
Could be a problem with the governor but not necessarily.

I rebuild carbs for these tractors and put them all on the same
tractor to test them. I've had several that will not idle down.
Installed on the same tractor with the same springs and linkage.
If the throttle shaft binds due to a worn bushing or a too tight
seal that could be your issue. Any recent changes to the tractor?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I rebuilt the carb about a year ago. I added a spring on the governor several years ago but the problem does not appear to be related. When I bring the throttle down from the mid range and above it seems to stick and then sorta jumps around. It is hard to explain. I might try adjusting the throttle tension (?) spring. It is annoying as the carb appears to work OK.
