Neatly done front bumper weights

I saw these on Craigslist. Not mine.
Anyone recognize them or are they home/shop made?

I've never seen any weights like those. They appear to be home made.

That arrangement is putting enormous cantilevered forces upon the bumper and, especially the two attachment bolts.

It is a failure waiting to happen.

I agree with Dean, nicely made, probably
works somewhere with a flame cutting
machine or large plasma. Definitely a
lot of leverage on the radius arms
having that weight way out there. But
I'm sure with reasonable use and care
they will be fine as they have been for
years likely

Not exactly the same thing but similar. These came with a 1950 8N and I am pretty sure they were purchased aftermarket by the previous owner. They slide into the gaps between the bars and two rods are inserted vertically on the backside of the bumper bars to keep them in place.

According to the man's wife and daughter they had been on the tractor for as long as they could remember - 30+ years or more. At something north of 250# it is a lot of overhung weight on the bumper attaching points and the weld on one tab had been broken, repaired, and broken again. Adding a couple braces like used on the later model bumpers to help support that weight is on my "to do" list....

Interesting weights.

I'm stunned that they held up as well as they did.

As I'm sure you know, such designs induce enormous forces on the bumper and attachment bolts as drivers bounce across furrows, etc., as farmers, and especially farmers children and hired hands are/were inclined to do.

Bouncing across furrows, etc., with a heavy, raised load on the lift can and did cause catastrophic failures to lift components, that the safety valve (later models) could not always prevent.

Ford was inclined to use good bolts. Perhaps he used good steel as well?
