Disc found at bottom rear housing

Hi,
I removed the topcover on the rear housing of my 1950 8N and found a round disc laying at the bottom of sump. Its about the size of an old silver dollar and about as thick (maybe inch and half in diameter). It has smooth surfaces and no holes in it. It was laying in the rear right corner of the housing. Anyone have an idea what it is for? The hydraulics have been weak and I found oil gushing from the topcover when I looked in the side port. Planning to just replace the piston rings and gasket to see if that fixes the problem.
Thank you

Sounds like something found it's way into the sump while the top cover was off at some time in the past.

By all means inspect/replace the cam follower pin while the lift cover is off.

This would also be an ideal time to thoroughly clean the sump and replace the oil.

Hi Dean,
Yes, I already dumped the oil and tried to get some of the gunk out that was at the bottom of the sump. I used gasoline to try and get it out.... which after the fact I noticed some say not to use gas (though I had no intention of running it through the pump). Couldn't get all gunk out, so been thinking about just puling out the pump and clean it more thoroughly. I have to wait for piston rings to arrive anyway. It did cross my mind to look at that cam follower pin which you mentioned, but I don't know too much about that as far as removal and getting a new one. I'd have to search for details on that here.
Thank you
