Front Tire Rim ,8N

Flat tire on front of 8N, side mount after SR#263xxx. Ordered tire and tube from Tucker Tire, came very fast. The tire shop says my hole is too rough and jagged and perhaps would ruin my tube. He suggested finding a welding shop, for repair and drill a hole. I am thinking of trying JB weld, or ordering a new Rim from this site for About $70.00 when delivered.
Suggestions Please?

Steve, weld it/ patch it inside and out, then drill a new hole across from the repair in good metal for the tube stem.

If you can do the welding yourself then that's what I would do.
If you have to pay someone to do it you're probably better off buying a new one.
As for jb weld, I've heard it works good for glueing small magnets to plastic butterflys so you can put them on your fridge. Beyond that, I can think of no useful purpose for the crap.

Ya know , if the rim isn't real porous from the rust, I'd go with the JB weld. I'd grind away the rust in the area , shape a disc, with plenty of overlap from 1/16 or so metal and JB that patch right over the hole. Daub enough over it so it covers the patch and makes the repair smooth. After it has set , mix a little more and fill in the depression in the front , then sand it smooth and paint the wheel . I did this on a Case DO 15 years ago , and no trouble so far ..... $70 will buy a lot of necessities
(or Barley Pop )

For about $70 delivered, you must have the 16 inch rims, no?
If so, many common tractor/implement rims will fit.
They're easy to find used for less than time and materials to
repair the current one. I fix the original rear hat rims for project
tractors but if you're building a trailer queen and worried about
originality, a new front one won't be original either.
Not to mention the quality of the older parts is better.

If you have to ask that question buy a new rim and move on with life, life will be good...

From time to time I spend countless hours saving a rim all in said and done a new rim is a deal...

Thanks to all. Appreciate the info. I live about 150 miles from my tractor, so I took Hobo's advice and bought one new from this site. Fast shipper
