2N Ball Joint/Sector Gear Arm

Guys, when I tighten the balljoint nut that connects to the sector gear arm to the point that it is tight, the threaded part of theball joint rubs against the tractor housing (Was like this when I got the tractor). I'm thinking that the sector gear arm must have gotten bent at some point in time. Do you think that I could heat the arm up and bend it out to the point where it does not rub the tractor housing? I believe that the arm is cast iron and am worried about breaking the arm. don't have the time or money to replace the sector gear arm. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Trim the end on the stud. I would be inclined to think:

1) The taper socket in the sector arm has been hogged out
2) The stud is a replacement part and the stud is overly long
3) Both of the above.

and if he does trim it, don't forget to dress the thread ends with a die, and take a hacksaw and cut a new slot in the base of
the stud.. might help the next owner out. :)

Tcarlson,A pry bar and a small 2x4 block against the transmission housing to pry the arm away some is all that is needed.I have seen many bent and rubbing. It will bend out some relatively easy.
