8N front wheel tracking

I use my 1952 8N for the majority of my lawn mowing. When I make sharp turns, due to obstacles etc., the outer front wheel sometimes severely cuts the turf. I understand that the 3 rib tires are a big part of the problem, but I have noticed that the outer wheel, whether turning right or left, sits at a much sharper angle than the inner wheel.

Am I wrong in thinking that the wheels should be roughly parallel to each other throughout the turning range? Is there something I can do to correct this situation, or is it just a characteristic of this tractor?

I think it is the geometry of the tractor. Straight ahead, there should be a 1/4" toe in on the front wheels. Turf tires would help.

(quoted from post at 17:15:29 09/07/16) Utilizing your left and right steering brakes would help!!
So does slowing down! :)

Turf tires, used car/truck tires or implement tires all work IF
you have the 16 inch front rims. Motorcycle tires will fit the 19's.

look at your front axles,
one wheel over the years could have been dropped off in a hole and the axle bend back some.
this would make that one wheel geometry off and would cause the tire dig in

you might try adding some toe out to the front wheels, this will not matter to steering in the field or yard, but it might make the front wheels cut less.

the tractor front wheels were built to dig in the soft dirt and cut hard, so you could get back into the furrow or row for plowing or cultivating with less tire slip

use car or motorcycle tires, they would mark your yard less as they would have less grip,
should not be hard to find used ones. steering might be harder!!!!!!!!!

Worn out spindle/kingpin and bushings, screw up the camber too and makes my right tire dig in more than it should on a left turn . . . with probably the incorrect toe in factor compounding the problem.

I've got a round-tuit on order. :D
