Carb recommendations

I'm about to order a new carb for my 8N. It's been a long time since I bought a new carb for anything and that was probably a Holly in the early '70's.

I'll be ordering it from Miss Kim on this site, and just wonder if there's any real difference between them all with prices ranging from $110.00 to $260.00.

If you have a preference please let me know and if you can explain why I'd appreciate it.

Thanx.

I've been working on old cars and tractors
for over 50 years. Whenever possible, I
get component parts rebuilt. The chances of
getting a new part built in the land of
almost right that actually works is at best
50/50 regardless of the vendor.

As R Geiger said, rebuild yours or have it
rebuilt.

I don't know what's wrong with your carb but I would rebuild if possible or buy and used one on ebay and rebuild it.

I agree, there are a few guys on here who will rebuild your carb for you, and make it look better than new. Plus, they install your carb on a
tractor and run it to prove it works before they send it back to you. You won't get that kind of assurance with a new carb. But, before you do
anything, please tell us what symptoms you have that make you think you need a carb? I'd hate to see you spend your money and not fix the
problem.

Ron I'm one of the guys that rebuilds them.
I agree with the others. I like the original Marvel Schebler rebuilt.
They're 65+ years old and have already proven how well they last.
I also have some I would sell if yours is not rebuildable.

On the other hand, I want to answer your question too.
If you buy a new one I like the cheap $110 one. This one.
They do not come pre-tested and pre-adjusted, but they work.
I wouldn't recommend the aftermarket black ones.

Here are a couple I rebuilt. 8N and Jubilee.

Ordered the $52 rebuild kit for the carb on my my 2N today from this site. It's been giving me fits for months so i decided to solve the problem. I hope!!!

Do you mean [b:608f029fd2]this[/b:608f029fd2] one Steve?
I've ordered that one before. It is very complete.
The only thing not in it is the floats as I recall.
Most of the time you don't really need a new choke and throttle
plate but if yours are damage or missing it is cheaper than buying
them and a kit separately and you have them all on hand at once.

Many people say there is no reason to replace the jets.
They have a point in that they don't wear out unless damaged.
But, the key to getting it back in tip-top shape is cleaning.
Every passage, every nook and cranny.
You can't clean under the jets well without removing them.

"I was going to get a rebuilt carb but changed my mind."

If you decide to get one rebuilt, make sure you get it rebuilt
by a guy that actually takes the time to put it on his tractor,
test it and adjust it for you so all you have to do is bolt it on. ;)

OK, first of all, thanks for all the replies. I guess I should have been more specific in my original post.

What I really wanted was an opinion or two on which carb is preferred. It's actually for a neighbors tractor and there's nothing there to rebuild except the one I've loaned him off of one of mine.

I always rebuild my own, and have rebuilt for others but I'm really looking for answers or opinions for purchasing a new one.

Royse, thanks for your thoughts on the cheaper model, it's what I was leaning towards since I had heard good reports about one like I saw installed on a MF down the road.

Thanks to all.

Ron
