box blade question

Just yesterday I looked at the TSC 6 footer. It appeared to be well built, but heavy. The paint was falling off ALL of them (I know it will be abused, but if the paint falls off from just sitting outside...) and the pins that hold the rippers in had absolutely nothing to keep them from falling out. You could simply push the pin out with your finger because the the holes were too large and the headless bent pins weren't bent enough. The $700 price tag scared me away.

I went down the street to Farm and Home supply and picked up a Work Saver for $640. Only $40 cheaper, but it has pins that won't fall out, paint that wasn't falling off and appeared to be built just as good. I haven't used it yet, but am happy with the quality for the price.

I started out with a 4' Atlas box blade years ago when my Dad left it to me, then stepped up to a 6' Atlas, these were some very well made heavy duty box blades, indestructible. Don't have them anymore, ought to have my butt kicked for selling the 6'....Now I have an 8' that I'm constantly repairing because of bending the flat steel that one of the lift pins comes through, have heated it too many time to straighten it back, going to have to cut some gussets out and weld on to strengthen it, I think its an LMC brand. If you can find a dealer that sell the Atlas brand you will be a happy customer, they are bullet proof...Don't know enough about the TSC box blades, if their as good as the post hole auger I bought at TSC then they ought to be good..

Have a keen kutter box blade. Tsc. Bent
pins have never fallen out. Is plenty
tough for a 50 hp tractor. 6 ft.

I have a 6' foot box blade from tractor supply and have very been happy with it.

As previously mentioned by others, it can drop the rippers out though, which can be inconvenient.

I picked one up because it was the cheapest one around here and have used the heck out of it.

I've had the five footer for a few years, and I'm happy with it. Works well, had some paint that flecked off when new, but hasn't lost any more since, and I doubt that I'll wear it out in my lifetime.
