gonna Start this post with Serial Number

I have acquired an 8N. I know nothing about it other than it is gonna need some work. to start with, wiring was burnt off half of it. Someone tried to convert it to 12V with Single wire alternator. I would like to just replace all the wiring and electrical components, but not sure where to start on it. Distributor is front mounted. His alternator hack job has the alternator sitting at wild angle to the front pully and is mounted on the right side of the tractor. From what I can tell generator was mounted bottom left. Not sure on if I need to build my own wiring harness or order one. Any help will be Awesome as to the right parts and diagrams to use on it.

Google "wiring diagrams by JMOR". Yous should find what you need. Perhaps someone can post a picture of a 8N with an alternator. They work
but don't look pretty.

If your tractor originally had a front mount distributor the
generator and therefore the alternator mounted on the right.
However, if you have the mounting bosses for one to be
mounted on the left, that sounds like a side mount distributor.
I suppose they could be combined, never tried.
I don't think the belt would clear the distributor cap to put
either on the left with a front mount distributor.

This first picture is Denny's.

In that first pic, is the alternator at an angle as it looks like?
And in the bottom pic, where the alternator is attached at the
block, is that where the old generator was mounted?

The alternator should not be angled, I think its just an optical illusion.
In the second picture, yes, the new bracket is bolted to the original generator bracket.

front mount? right side is where gen / alt goes.

show your pic. as long as the belt clears the dizzy, and steering arms don't hit it, it should be ok.

wire harness for a 8n is about 3 ' of wire and a few connectors. ez to make.

post a pic of your alt.

I have a tractor repair business, mostly old Fords and Fergusons, and have seen so many cobbled 12 volt conversions it makes me sick. I don't have any issues with 12 volt conversions, as long as they're done properly and for good reasons, otherwise there's nothing wrong with the original 6-volt, positive ground electrical system. Off my soapbox now, and on to some friendly advice. Your 8N is an early 1948 Model -some will say it is a 1947 model, and technically it was built in 1947 but model designation '8N' was to signify NEW MODEL YEAR 1948. Why? If you go to a parts store and tell them you have a 1947 Ford N-Series tractor, chances are they will be looking in a parts book at a 2N model. Anyway, Since your 8N is an early model, you might want to consider restoring it to original. I have an original 8N generator; voltage regulator; and original loop/induction style ammeter if you are interested -my email is open. I can guide you too with wiring and anything else.
