8N stalls after 15-30 sec running

The original subject was "8N stalls after 1530 sec running".

I have a 1954 NAA. 12 volt. Sat for three years. Cleaned the gas tank, changed the plugs an wires, new coil, rebuilt distributor, cleaned the air filter, cleaned the breathers, checked the compression (110 on all 4), new ignition, ( I may have missed something on that list :) ).

My tractor runs for maybe 15 seconds, then dies unless choked. If throttle is set at lowest idle, it sometimes runs an runs an runs, until throttle is given. It starts up right after, runs for 10 seconds an just struggles to run an dies, unless choked, ( choking it let's it run an additional 5-20 seconds). I've changed everything I can think of. I need some advice. Oh an I changed the fuel line if I hadn't mentioned above.

You said you changed the fuel line but, did you remove the plug in the bottom bowl of the carburetor and check if the fuel is running free? It should run continuous and fill a pint jar in a couple minutes.

Welcome to the forum.
I would do as Cary said and check fuel flow through the carb.
If it does not run steadily, check it at the elbow end of the line.
If it runs steadily there but not out of the bottom the problem
is in the carb. All of this assuming it is a fuel issue.
I didn't see any mention of testing quality of spark after replacing
all those parts but it still smells like a fuel issue from here.

On a side note, you will probably get many more responses if
you start a new post as opposed to replying to a 4 year old one.

The brass elbow into the carbaratuer, has a hidden screen on the end. Did you unscrew the elbow and clean it out?
Plugged screen would show in gas flow out the drain.

n 8N with gas valve turned off and a carb bowl full of gas will run about 2 minutes. So 15 seconds is not a fuel problem as far as I can see.

Not exactly, at least not on my 8N. The times I've started it without turning on the gas it seemed like it ran for maybe 20 seconds or so.

Sounds like you did every thing but clean carb. I lay any odds that carb is dirty and a passage way in carb is plugged.

ell, duh...if you didn't turn it on first, then how do you know that the "bowl was full of gas", as I said? Try turning it off gas while running. That was, you will know it was a bowl full of gas. Two minutes.

When my 8N does this, it is always because the fuel bowl inlet needle is stuck in its seat and doesn't drop down out of its seat when the float drops. The nitrile-tipped needle valves are especially bad about this. You need to install the wire keeper that keeps the needle valve connected to the float tang, if you don't already have one installed.

If you turn the key off then wait two or three minutes to turn the gas valve off, wouldn't the bowl be full of gas then?

erhaps at that moment, but after it sits for days, perhaps not. After all, the bowl is vented to the atmosphere.
