Disposing of oil

What do you guys do with old used GL-1 90 weight mineral oil? I have eight gallons of the stuff and don't know what to do with it.

The auto stores around here will only accept motor oil.

I give mine to the service guy who changes my oil in my cars and trucks. I thought that whoever sold you the stuff is required to recyle it for you.

interesting, cary. i assume my local recycling place would take it, but maybe they make the same distinction.

Caryc,It is great for putting on implements plows, disk blades, ect stored in the BIG shed to keep them from rusting.

I got rid of mine at the local auto parts store. I asked if they took drain oil and they said yes. I never specified what flavor and they never asked.

It all gets mixed together and my friend burns it heating his shop. It averages out with the fuel.

I use it to quench when forging. I use it on my sickle bar before, during, and after, a run. Coat my plow shares in it during the winter. Sometimes I even filter it and run it in the diesel.

I take mine to Walmart. They do not ask what it is. Used oil. There is a limit per day not sure how much.

Great, you can come and get mine. I'll let you have it for freezies.

I mix with motor oil, and O'Reilly Auto parts store takes it. I asked once and they said they do not care, just dump into the bulk container in the back. Ever since, I never ask, I just go in back door and
dump my containers, and leave. Not sure what it is used for, but I have been told that some of the recyclers use to make bar/chain oils for one thing. Many years ago there was a motor oil brand called
"Double Eagle" which was made from recycled oil, and was much less expensive. I knew a guy that used it exclusively in his pickup that used quite a bit of oil. We used to jokingly call it Double Buzzard
oil.
