NAA won't turn over.

I have an NAA that won't crank. Battery tests 6v. I press on the starter button and all I hear is a click (or sometimes many clicks) coming from
the starter solenoid. I jump it direct to the starter and she cranks fine and starts right up. Any idea why this NAA won't crank when I press the
start button?

Thanks all!

Battery or cables and connections are weak. Charge the battery overnight. Clean up all the cable to battery post connections and the cable to solenoid and solenoid to starter connections. Try again. Check the battery with a battery tester.

You can get 6 volts out of 3 flashlight batteries. Will that provide enough amps to start your tractor? (BTDT)

A volt meter will tell you if you have a bad battery, but it won't tell you if you have a good battery. See tip # 49.

Confirm a good battery before you go down the checklist of other causes.

Yeah, I'll have to pick up a batt tester. Also, this may be a good time to replace the generator wires as they are in very rough shape at the terminal ends. See what happens then.

Thanks for the replies.... I appreciate it.

"this may be a good time to replace the generator wires as they are in very rough shape"

Actually it may be a bad time to do that.
The starting circuit is separate from the charging circuit.
I would fix one problem at a time so as not to induce new ones.
Once it cranks and starts well, then go after those other wires.
Let us know how it goes!

if you can jump around the solenoid and the battery will start the tractor.. then check your wiring to the solenoid . if you check the wires / connections, and the start switch and they are good.. then it's the solenoid.

Those 100/125 amp checkers may be OK for a mower are motor scooter battery but not 0f much help on a 400/500 amp tractor battery. Those cheap digital tester are nuttin more than a volt meter that chifers the voltage for ya to determine battery state of charge. You can use this chart and a volt meter to do the same thang...

For the fugal with a Volt meter use you starter for the load and read the voltage. I this video For the 6V nutts cut the voltage in haft.

I bought a hydrometer and each cell in the 6v battery tested weak, even though the volt meter read 6v. So, I dropped off the battery at a close by shop where they're going to test and charge it. This battery is only one year old, so I suspect the battery will charge and test well.

I'm wondering if the battery is not being charged by the generator? I'll have to read up on this forum how to test the generator.

Again, thanks for replies!
