8n lower steering shaft bearing retainer

Was going to install new bearing on lower steering shaft and noticed something has broken off in the hole for the retainer. Guessing it was the old part that held bearing retainer on. Any way to get that out such as drilling it. Thanks

The bottom of the hosuing beneath the bottom bearing should have a knock out plug that you can remove. At least my 8n did.

but it didn't address your issue.

Sounds like the old rivit is in the bottom of your steering shaft? it's soft. you can probably pry it out.. or whatever.

it's not needed... once the shaft is in the bearing and the bearing is in the race.. it can't possibly go anywhere if the thrust
clearance is correct.
