8N serial number

I have a Ford 800 tractor. I think the serial number is 42407. This number is located on the engine block where the starter is mounted. There is a diamond shape on each end of the number but no "8N". Does all this mean the tractor is a very early 1948 model?

Thank you.

The serial number is not located on the
engine. It is on the transmission - on the
flat spot just above and behind the starter.
If that is where you got that number from
then it corresponds to a 1955 model.
There is no correlation between an 8N and an
800. 8Ns were discontinued in 1952. Then
they built the NAA/Jubilees for 2 years and
Then they built the Hundreds.
There should also be another # in that same
location. If you post that # we can tell you
what transmission it has and if it has live
pto or not.

Welcome to the forum.
If your tractor is an 800 series the serial number should be on
a flat spot on the bellhousing just above the starter hole.
If your tractor is an 8N the serial number should be stamped
into a flat, just below the head and just aft of the oil filter.
If you have a tag on the side of the block with a serial number
on it the engine may have been replaced with one from an
industrial application, stationary power unit, etc.
