2n oil pressure

Hi,Can anyone tell me the operating oil pressure at idle for a 1944 2n? I seem to have approx.20 lbs at idle, but once I start to move it drops down to 12-14 psi. is that normal?? I changed the the old gage that was original, and she ran at about 20 psi, to a new one from a well known co. who has 2n, parts. When up to full speed she drops to around 10 psi.Any ideas what is normal when running in 3 rd gear at full throttle?? She has less than 10 hrs since last oil change, thanks,Buddyboy

My 2n runs great and has about 30 at idle, 45 at full throttle. The lower the oil pressure, The more worried I am about a engine rebuild.

Is the pressure dropping right as you begin to move or while you are driving? If just when you begin to move that will slow the engine down, thus the lower oil pressure.
If while moving it remains lower then at idle and you throttle up, I'm pretty sure that is not normal at all.

[list:e59e190687][*:e59e190687]Moving versus sitting still should not change the oil pressure. If it does check the oil level and make sure the sump is full[*:e59e190687]Higher engine RPM will give higher pressure, lower RPM will give lower pressure[*:e59e190687]Oil pressure will be higher at startup when the oil is cold and will decrease once the oil gets hot[*:e59e190687]At 1500 RPM with the engine fully warmed up you should have 20+ PSI of pressure[*:e59e190687]Pressures less than that indicate engine wear is getting advanced.[/list:u:e59e190687]

You can use a heavier weight oil.
I have 45psi cold at 1000 rpm, 30 psi hot at 1500 rpm, about 15 to 20 psi hot at
550 rpm.
I use SAE 40 down in hot south Texas.

Thanks that is a great idea,I never thought of running a heavy weight oil. I am in lower SW Fl, where 95 degrees is normal. I had no problems with the pressure in upstate NY. As soon as I brought her down here I notice she dropped in pressure. I will change to a heavy weight oil, thanks !!! Buddyboy

When I was in upstate NY I had 30 psi at start up,no problems, but since I had her moved down here in SW Fl where 95 plus degrees is normal it dropped to 20 at start up after about 10 to 15 mins of running she drops to 12 psi. I installed a new oil gage when I had her rebuilt. I think I will first check the gage,if that seems correct I will use a 40 weight oil.She runs like a clock,no stuttering at start up at ll,turns right over on first push of the starter button. Oil is clear and clean. No metal shaving at all,no grime,no nothing. Again it started since I brought her down here. Thanks for your help,Buddyboy
