9N Oil Filler neck

I have a 1940 9N that is pretty original and getting better. One of the things that is incorrect is the oil filler neck and breather. I have a correct reproduction to go on the tractor but it doesn't fit. Apparently someone shortened the neck for some reason. Is that tube something I can remove and replace with the correct one with the engine in tact? I'll have to try and remember to get a picture tonight.

The filler neck is press fit in the block. They are not too hard to work back and forth and pull out. Try to clean crud from around it so that does not fall into the pan.

Marty,You can replace the oil fill tube with the correct one that has a press in fit,if it is loose the tube needs to be expanded for a snug/tight fit.

That would be great if I could rock it out of there because it's two items (oil tube and the breather) that are incorrect. It drives me crazy looking at them. Does anyone have an original oil filler tube for the 1940 9N they'd like to sell?

i haven't had cause to try to rock mine out, but someone not long ago talked about launching theirs with a buildup of crankcase pressure :D

maybe u should just plug yours and let nature take its course ;)

That gave me a chuckle. No, I don't think I'll do that. :D

That HFJ is always good for a laugh! Love having him around!
I do not have one I'm willing to part with at the moment.
John Smith might have though. Have you contacted him?

Years go I found three of these on fleabay that were NOS and still packed in cosilne. Dennis Carpenter makes and sells as well as nnalert the caps just like the original, new, for $20.00. Originals sometimes are dented up and the mesh inside is all rotted out. Tubes show up often too on fleabay...
