5' or 6' box blade?

Looking into a medium duty box blade for my 2N. Will it pull a 6' with 6 rippers or is a 5" a better choice?

Thanks!

I would go with the 5 footer. It will pull the other but not with much gravel or dirt in it.

I've got a 5 footer. It will stop my 8N without loaded tires.
Loss of traction when digging too deep. (not normal use probably)
9N with loaded tires does a little better with it.
Light use, a 6 would probably work but if you're digging, 5 is enough.

I have a 6ft
been happy with it,
and yes if you try to fill it with dirt or gravel it will be a load,
but I wanted one that would stick out a bit past my rear wheels

a box blade is a handy tool,
I also have a rock rake and blade
all have their place depending on the job.

note look at the diggers, how hard is it to pull the pins and change heights, also how well are they secured to the body of the machine.

some units I looked at before I purchased, the diggers were not well secured to the box blade frame and could come loose and fall out as sometimes the machine does a lot of bouncing, bumping around.

I would go with the 6' Blade...it will reach past your rear wheels and be easier to level your drive, etc..

It is always hard to level if you cannot span the width of your tractor tires..

You do not need to have all the diggers set down at one time and you certainly can add weight or loaded tires to your tractor..

Front weight is needed as often as rear weight on these..

does anyone know if there is a box blade made that can be angled? would be nice to have one to clean out ditches.

I have a 6' box blade from tractor supply that I pull with my 8n. I like it a lot.

The only down side is that the rippers can drop out easy but replacements can be had for 40 dollars at tsc.

As far as a box blade that can be tilted, you can get tilt out of the leveling box. Any other direction and I'm sure you'd have to install live hydraulics and set up a top and tilt system.

tHAT IS WHAT a back blade is for. You can never have too much equipment. I have been thinking about getting a box scraper but I am thinking about a 4 foot one. I don't care about going past the tires but I do want it to dig in and be able to pull it.

Here is a six foot box blade that my Dad built several years ago. He graded, seeded and landscaped yards for a living. He built it six foot so it would be wider than the tractor and would grade clear up to the foundation, saved a lot of shoveling and hand work. He also wanted one extra scarifier tooth so he put in seven. As you can see everything he built was made heavy.

I used it for several years with my 8N and it worked well, but you could also stop the tractor if you got too ambitious. My son has it now. If I were to buy another now I would go six foot.
