26 HP Kohler Pro --son changed oil--do you check oil with stick screwed in or do u check
it with stick not screwed in....not screwed in shows add--screwed in shows full----no don't
have the owner's manual..Thanks I told him I think you'd screw it in to check the oil
level..

I'll be interested to see what the answers are Tom.
My 23HP Kawasaki dipstick says right on the stick NOT
to screw it in while checking the oil. But it is threaded in.
The 25HP Briggs I just replaced it with while I rebuild the Kaw
doesn't say on the stick, but it is a quarter turn lock vs threads.

Tom, above should be the link to your engine. You don't screw the dipstick in, see page 11.

There have been changes between series, Bill M may be correct for his Kohlers, but the Pro manual says not screwed in. Many Briggs engines are screwed in to check.

"There have been changes between series"

I have no doubt that this is a true statement, if not an understatement!
The only small engine I have with the type of dipstick shown in that
manual is a Subaru Robin on my generator. Push mower has just a cap.
The rest have vertical dipsticks that check like a car.
