So trying to take out a little slop in my steering box and not have to buy all new gears. So my plan is to remove a little material from the center washer and putting thicker shims on the outside. I have already taken out from the center and I have total end play with existing washers of ,058. turns out it is really hard to find washers that are 2.25 OD x 1.635 ID in the thickness I am trying to get. Any ideas?

Idea/possibility, a local shop may be able to stamp or
laser cut them out of flat plate that thickness.
Or, multiple thinner washers if those could be found.
They would wear faster but it's not a high speed operation.

I think you will find the middle teeth on the sector gears are worn considerably more than the teeth on the ends. Moving the sectors closer together will eliminate the play in the middle position when the wheels are pointing straight ahead but will likely cause them to bind when the when the steering wheel is turned to either side.

That said try using these stock round steel shims from McMaster.

A package of 10 shims will cost you about $10. They are 2.750 OD x 1.750 ID but should clear the casting if you put them between the original outer spacers and the cheeks on the sectors. Divide them up equally on each sector so the sectors stay centered.

Do a search for these numbers

2 9N3563A Washers - .255? thickness
2 9N3563B Washers - .250? thickness
2 9N3563C Washers - .245? thickness

All very good suggestions. Reminds me I have a friend with a laser. Totally forgot about that. Will check lash throughout full range first. Thanks for the help. Will update.
